The site corresponds to the previous location of the Columbia Country Club, important testimony of the colonial Shanghai, built in 1930. Both the club building and the annex gymnasium and outdoor swimming pool exist today, all in discreet conditions. The site also includes the former residence of Sun Ke, designed by the Hungarian architect Lazlo Hudec, together with its adjacent historical garden. After 1949, the land has been used as biological park till recent. An extremely diverse built repertoire characterizes the site today, testimony of the different periods, functions and stories that happened here throughout nearly one century. Such diversity of spaces, typologies and languages represents the site’s most valuable asset and attraction.
