The building is divided into two main functional areas, the lower part houses the public areas and library in which are interspersed a series of pillars that support like trees in a forest the upper of the building housing the classrooms and offices which are enclosed in a large solid volume. Particular attention was made in the selection of materials and composition of design in order to establish a strong dialogue with the existing mood of the university characterized by the red brick facades of its many heritage buildings.

For this reason we selected a range of materials such as red bricks, cement plasters and multi-tinted reflecting glass to give a modern interpretation to the original mood of the campus and to create a feeling of harmony and historical continuity. The composition however is intentionally modern and contemporary so as to underline the natural instinct to progress and give the university and the campus a new landmark symbol for the future.

In order to provide natural daylight to the first floor of the basement and to be able to increase the sqm of usable area Kokaistudios designed a sinking garden that extends 6 meters from the building redline. The garden has been designed in a way to provide a calm and relaxing environment facing the library, a perfect location for meeting and quiet meditation.
